London Fashion Week SS18: Day Two

Day two of London Fashion Week SS18 was a busier day for me. On this day I had the honour of attending four amazing shows. Something to note is that the spring and summer of 2018 will be filled with lots of pastels, ruffles, lots of print and color red mainly  as an accessory.

The first show of the day was by Sabinna. A ready-to-wear and knitwear brand founded by Russian-born, Austrian-raised and London based Sabinna. Just like her fellow designer Roberta Einer her collection features Grandma taught embroidery, only in her case, it is the floral crochet.

This season’s collection includes pastels pinks and blues, the occasional navy blue and a very bold read. Delicate ruffles can be found on collars, sleeves and trims of the clean cut garments. Naturally, her signature floral crochet was ever so present.  To sum it up, Sabinna’s SS18 collection is delightful mash-up of delicate, modern, exceptionally feminine yet contemporary pieces.

The next show of the day was Jasper Conran’s show:

Jasper Conran is one of the founding fathers of London Fashion week and well the first British designer show I attended.

In contrast to Sabinna’s show that was dominated by four main colours. Jaspar show had every colour you could think of. From light orange to the dark and bold purple. Outfits were matched with the element of colour blocking at the back of the mind. In some looks, elegant ensembles were accessorised with woluminous parkas worn over outfits making them an easy every day look.

Pieces also included slip dresses and draw string skirts with over sized pockets (another element that was popular this season).

Materials ranged from sheer see through fabrics, as shown above, to loosely fitting jersey cotton.

Cotton knit short shorts with matching tops made an appearance at the show bringing out the 60s vibe.

Not forgetting the absolutely gorgeous maxi dresses that are to die for. Strappy sandals and matching handbags with embroidered handles completed said looks.

After the show I headed to Oxford Street for a quick stop at the cafe. With a few minute to spare, I joined fellow spectators and watched a young Harmonie London’s rendition of Adele’s Hello right outside Bond Street Station (Vlog coming soon). From there I took the metro back to The Free Mason’s Hall where I attended Edda Gimnes SS18 presentation.

Edda Gimnes is a London based Norwegian designer. Preoccupied with the concept of past, old and forgotten objects her main aim is to combine art and fashion in a new and unexpected way. It is important to her to have fun with the clothes and I feel like wearing her collection is like dressing up for different characters.

This was very apparent during the presentation. The models danced around the room flaunting her pieces, smiled, laughed, stepped off the stage and interacted with the audience.

For spring/summer, Edda drew inspiration from 1950’s silhouettes, combining elements of sports wear and feminine glamour. Pieces were made of material with handrawn sketches, patterns and illustrations bringing them to life.

The colour palette was a mix of pastels with the colours mustard, blue teal, hues of grey, pink and olive green taking first place. The colour black was present but only to serve as sketched pencil lines. This same pattern and designs followed through onto the bags, belts and thigh-high sock boots.

Additionally, Pink ostrich feathers, fur cuffs and oversized hats, added to compliment the looks, were hard to miss.

Edda’s SS18 Collection is a lighthearted, playful yet elegant collection that is a must have for every girl out there.

The last invite of the day came from the lovely Katie Ann McGuigan.

Katie Ann McGuigan is an Ireland born and yet another London based fashion designer. She gets her inspiration from photographers and their work, particularly those who capture youth.

Artists that served as inspiration for her SS18 collection were Perry Ogden, Alen Macweeney and Colin O’Brien.

The palette is made up from secondary colours;  Orange, baby blue, lemon yellow, army green, and burgundy. As per SS18 fashion tradition, shapes used throughout the collection to add volume and contrast include peplums, ruffles , lazer cutting, leather and organza.

That concludes today’s post on London Fashion Week. As you can see it was full day of fun and fashion for me. Make sure you check in on Friday for an even more extensive review of day three. Feel free to comment below which collection was your favourite and which piece will definitely be added to your wardrobe.

Ciao My Loves. Have Yourselves a Wacky Wednesday XOXO
